Justification: Becoming a Child of God
Dr. Scott Hahn
The Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI has proclaimed this the “Year of St. Paul.” According to the Holy Father, “For us
Paul is not a figure of the past whom we remember with veneration. He is also our teacher, an Apostle and herald of
Jesus Christ for us too.” Faithful Catholics around the world are looking to the inspired writings of St. Paul “in order
to listen and learn today from him.” And one of Paul’s most controversial teachings is the doctrine of Justification.
Catholics and Protestants alike agree that Christ brought salvation, but precisely how are we saved? What does it
mean to be “born again?” What does it mean to be “Justified?”
“Romanism” in Romans
St. Augustine writes that it was the Apostle Paul’s teaching on Justification in his Letter to the Romans that finally
brought him into the Catholic Church. This same Pauline Letter, reinterpreted by Martin Luther, was responsible
for launching the Protestant Reformation. Now on CD, well-known Catholic convert Dr. Scott Hahn examines the
question of whether one is justified by “faith alone” as Luther taught, or if one’s faith must “work in love?” As you
listen, Scott will take you through the ten simple steps in Romans that highlight the truth about Paul’s teaching on
Justification – and reveal how Protestants give to St. Paul’s words a meaning that they could never have had in their
original context.
Gateway to the Spiritual Life
In this series, you’ll explore all aspects of Justification, including how the New Testament sets forth the Sacrament
of Baptism as indispensable to salvation. Jesus said that unless you are “born again” you cannot enter the kingdom
heaven. Despite popular Protestant misunderstandings of this and other verses, Hahn provides overwhelming
Biblical evidence to show beyond a shadow of a doubt that Jesus was talking about Baptism. As you listen you’ll
discover that St. Paul and the other New Testament authors consistently affirm that through Baptism Christ gives us a
new life of grace in His Church where we truly become “children of God.”
According to Dr. Hahn, if we can recover the true meaning of Justification, we are close to recovering the heart, and
the soul, and the joy of our Faith. Order today and discover how to live as a child of God with more faith and more
love than ever before.
